About

Since Horus is said to be the sky , he is also considered to contain the sun and the moon. Accordingly, the sun was his right eye and the moon his left eye, which passed through the sky, when he, being a falcon, flew over it. Later, the reason why the moon is not as bright as the sun is explained through a story, entitled "The Struggles Between Horus and Seth. In this story, Set is the patron god of Upper Egypt, and Horus , protector of Lower Egypt, fought brutally for Egypt, neither side winning, until in the end the gods sided with Horus. When Horus finally won, he was called "" Horus the Great", but often translated "Horus the Great." During the battle, Set lost a stone, explaining why the desert, which Set represents, was barren. Horus' left eye was also damaged. gouged out, then a new eye was created by a part of Khonsu, the moon god, in its place. Horus is sometimes shown in art as a naked boy with a finger in his mouth sitting on a lotus flower with his mother. In the form of a teenager, Horus is referred to as the "good Horus".

$Horus was often the ancient Egyptians' national tutelary deity. He was usually depicted as a falcon-headed man wearing the pschent, or a red and white crown, as a symbol of kingship over the entire kingdom of Egypt.
